I had been riding sportives for a couple of years after giving up Triathlon (I hate running and loath swimming), so to join a cycling club was the inevitable. Having been in clubs as a teen, it took some courage as a 30 something to make a come back. I had no real idea of my level of fitness. Eventually I made the step, and I have never looked back. When you see 30 odd blokes gathering round a Rackhams, it is very daunting indeed to make the step. No soon had I turned up when everyone made me feel welcome. The Seamons bunch are a great set of people.
At first I was racing well and had a few successes; both Time-Trialing and Road Racing, but then inevitably life takes over and you get children. My racing career is mainly on hold these days due to three kids under 5, but I plan to becoms a Seamons come-back-king some time in about 10 years time, and as a Yorkshire-man, whoop some Cheshire a*s. Club runs are tough, but all the more rewarding for simply finishing or being in the mix for the dash to the cafe or Hale.
